Film titles usually give the audience a taste of what the
content of the film is to be about. This is done either simply through the
title of the film or other elements such as the background picture of cast
featured in the movie.
It is important that we capture some of the conventions real
teen films include in their titles. This because the title is all the audience
has to go from before trailer and such are released. From the title of our teen
film the audience get a sense of what it is going to be about.
‘Freaky Friday’ is an example of a teen film that gives the
audience a sense of what they can expect from the film. Although there is use
of one type of font the two different colours used create a contrast in the
characters the audience can expect to find in the film. The word ‘freaky’ has
red in it while the word ‘Friday’ has a light purple. This shows the two
different personalities the protagonists have as red is seen as a “too hot to
handle” colour and the light purple a “plain Jane” colour- which is a spot on
description about the mother and daughter.
Furthermore in the film ‘Spring Breakers’ the writing of the
title is not precise as it looks as though it has been written itself several
times. Students tend to do this when bored in lesson which gives an impression
that the film is going to revolve itself around a group of students. The harshness
of the letters being written over several times shows a sign of chaos. However
the bright colours used in the title show an element of fun in the film.
The pink cursive writing in the title of our teen film
represent the feminine characters in our teen film as pink is a colour usually
associated with Barbie’s whereas the red block capital letters contrast the
pretty pink as the red gives a sense of danger and also the capital letters
symbolise dominance- reflecting other members of the teen film.
Brief outline of our teen film:
Four girls of different backgrounds find they share a past
together when a sudden lockdown in school results in them spending the night in
college.
Brief outline of the opening;
The opening of our teen film typically follows teen films as
we have the girls arriving at school (in their different forms of transport
etc.) and several shots of them on their journey to college. We then have them
settling in a class that they share but do not associate with one another. Suddenly
an alarm goes off indicating the ‘meltdown’ in which students and teachers need
to leave the building immediately as there is only a minute until the system
locks down. In this moment of frenzy everyone leaves however complications occur
(bag stuck to seat etc.) to the four girls which leaves them trapped in the
classroom that automatically locks.
