Analysis of 3 teen movies

Final Destination
The film Final Destination comes from the franchise that holds 5 films. It is targeted at both males and females that enjoy horror films as the film follows both genders on their journey to escape death. The movie targets horror fans as the 15 age rating allows the the fans to experience the characters gruesome death which typically horror fans enjoy.  Final Destination enables the some members of the audience to take a personal journey with the character as the character may face problems that the audience my be able to relate to. It can also target teens in general as the characters are teens themselves which allows them to relate to the film.

John Tucker Must Die
John Tucker Must Die is a high school comedy/ romantic film targeted primarily at female teenagers. This is as the plot revolves around four females (main characters) cunning a plan to take down the male that has been playing them. Female teenagers would take an interest in this film firstly, for the "male eye candy" and secondly it focuses around females therefore it could see the audience. The school building that most of the film is set in could see students in general going to watch the film as they can relate to the some of the problems that can occur when in education.

She's The Man
Just like John Tucker Must Die, She's The Man is a high school comedy/ romantic film however the target audience differs due to the content of the film. She's The Man is targeted at both females and males, this is because the focus of the football lures males in to go and watch it and a predominant percentage of males take an interest in football. However as the main character is a female trying to fit into the world of football, females may find it an interesting topic and therefore go and see it, also females may take an interest in the topless men featured in the film.

Binary Oppositions

Binary Oppositions are contrasting theories that can be used in story lines and plots. Binary Oppositions are established in teen film openings for example the idea of evil/good; good vs bad. An example of a teen film which features this could be in Slumdog Millionaire where there is a good brother and a bad brother. Another example is Wizard of Oz where there is the idea of reality vs appearance, and this being a binary opposition.

Analysis of 3 teen movies

 1) JUNO

The target audience for this teen movie is mainly comedy lovers as the film is a comedy drama film.  I think that the film itself is more appealing to females than to males because of the teen pregnancy storyline as well as Ellen Page who is the main actress.

Audience task 2: Analysis of 3 teen movies with different audiences

Teen films:

Trailers:

Mean girls- The film Mean girls is specifically targeted at females, mainly teenage girls. This movie would appeal to this audience due to the fact that the film tackles with a lot of the different situations that girls that age would be going through in their own high schools. Different people will be able to connect to the different character's in the storyline so they will be more interested in the film.

The Breakfast Club- The film The Breakfast Club will appeal to both teenage girls and boys. This is due to the fact that the film shows the different perspectives of both girls and boys so both genders may relate to the different opinions of the characters. Also as the film is a comedy the audience will also contain people who enjoy comedy films. Also the fact that it is set in a high school would draw in that age group.

Scream- Most teenagers enjoy horror films so this film would also appeal to both however mostly to  boys. This is due to the fact that it tends to be mostly boys that prefer the horror films.

The theme of drama is present in films such as Mean Girls, Bring it on: All or nothing and A Cinderella Story, just to name a few of them!
