Genre and Convention

What is a teen film?

A tenn film is a film genre which is targeted at teens and young adults. The plot mainly tends to be based on the special interest of teens: coming of age, rebellion, first love and conflict with parents.

Who watches them?

Teen films mainly are targeted at both teenagers and young adults however sometimes older viewer may be interested in them as sometimes they may be able to relate to the storyline or the characters.

Locations often used in teen films:

There always tend toy be a large number of different locations in teen films however these locations tend to differ for the different themes. Typically most teen dramas are sent in high school so lots of the locations will be set in different parts of the school for example in the teen film Mean Girls a number of the different scenes take part in the school cafateria this is done to show the different groups or 'cliques' there are in high school. Another example of one of the typical locations tends to be the corridors as this is where the students collect their book from their lockers and hang out with friends. 
With teen films centered around sports a sports hall is often used to show where the team or person would train.
