Editing 27.02.14

The 27th of February was our second day of editing our footage for our teen film Weirdly Connected we also had two members of the group Tasmin and Faiza go out in order to re-film some of the footage so that it would work better for the film and also so that there would be no problems with either lighting or the cinematography. As they were shooting this footage Me and Karen focused on the editing process for the film. (screen shots of the process have been uploaded onto the blog.)
We were able to accomplish a large sum of the editing, we focused more on the introductions of each of the characters showing the ways in which they travel to the college and showing the different home situations some of them come from which helps to show their stereotypes this is also done by the costume. For example for the character of El leaves her home in a rush we can see that she has a troubled life by the place where she lives which is very dark covered with rubbish and looks completely abandoned. Whereas the character of Britney seems to come from a very wealthy household with a beautiful old fashioned home unlike El's home which make it seem as though it's just a place to sleep making her the outcast and Britney the popular girl who gets anything she wants.
We also focused on the final scene of the opening which includes a small climax. In order to make the seen more intense and show the importance of the situation Karen and I decided that it would be best if while the characters are running to the door of the classroom (which is now locked trapping them inside) we use special effects to make the characters run in slow motion. With the help of Mick we were able to achieve this and in my opinion it works very well allowing the audience to understand that this is a very important part of the film and when the camera cuts in front of the characters we get to clearly see the fear and worry in their expressions. Throughout the editing process we have tried to use a wide range of different camera angles and shots to get the point of view of each of these characters.

What we have to do next:
  • Finish editing the footage and make sure that it all fits together.
  • Add all sound effects and music to the sequence including the voice over which will be done by Karen's character Grace.
  • Add the sequence for the production and distribution company
  • Add the rest of the credits for the film
