The contrast between two mutually exclusive concepts or things that creates conflict and drives a narrative e.g. good/evil, day/night, male/female, presence/absence, old/young. These opposition can be shown through things such as mise-en-scene, editing, camerawork and sound. In Harry Potter the binary opposition is throughout the film Harry is the 'good' guy and Voldemort is seen as the 'evil' guy this is an example the binary opposite.
Mise-en-scene
Harry has a very clean cut image shown mostly in his uniform as are most of the other students. He wears classes that implies intelligence, it shows he is smart well mannered kid. Whereas, Voldemort and who is shown as the villain in the film wears a black cape and is the dark lord he has pale skin and no nose which are not the norm sets him apart from the rest of characters. His dark cape connotes darkness and evil as well as Voldemort the Dementors are evil creatures working alongside Voldemort these creatures adorned in dark hooded cloaks and they suck the soul out of your body. Their customes also connotes evil and darkness and evil.
Camera work
In Harry potter different types are angle are used. For example, In deathly Hallows Part 2 the pan around the wand shows the audience its importance. High angles also used to show importance as its shows how much power and strength he holds. When Harry and Voldemort fight the wands show how much they power the have ultimately Harry wins this shows he is the good guy and defeats the bad guy which is a common stereotype.
