Genre and Convention

What is a teen film?
Teen films is a film genre targeted at teenagers and young adults in which the plot is based upon the special interests of teeneagers for example first love , rebellion, conflict with parents and the journey towards adolescence. They are usually exaggerated and presented in a glossy, stereotyped or trivialized way.
 Who watches teen films?
The target audience of teen films is of course teenagers because usually what happens in the film is something that may happen in real life so they can relate to the characters although it is very exaggerated and includes many stereotypes. Although the main target audience is teens many people from all age groups watch teen films depends on the personal preferences
 What sub genres are common?
-Rom coms
- Comedies
Thrillers
 Conventional locations and character found in teen films
Conventional locations would take place at school and that’s where the problems and dramas happens in the films such as Mean Girls, A Cinderalla Story, John Tucker Must Die, High School Musical. Convetional characters found in teen films are the dumb blonde, nerds, the jocks.
