The task is to watch the opening clip of The Breakfast Club and make a remake by re shooting the opening of The Breakfast Cub. In the opening of the clip the school is introduced- shots of the school canteen, locker, classrooms, walls and entrance are shown. From this the audience get a sense of the school and students can relate to the film as the shots shown in the clip are what you would usually find in a school. The characters all arrive in different forms of transport which gives the audience a sense of their social class. For example 'the criminal' arrives by foot which suggest to the audience that his parents may not attain a high earning job as when compared to some of the others they arrive in expensive cars. This creates a contrast between the two types of characters.
The way the characters are presented is portrayed through their clothing and their attitudes towards others.
The way the characters are presented is portrayed through their clothing and their attitudes towards others.
'The Princess'
The princess is labelled as the princess through several ways. Firstly she is dressed in feminine clothing unlike the other female in the film. Also she chooses to wear bright clothes which suggest she is a bubbly character. She arrives in a BMW, which is considered expensive. Furthermore the conversation she has with her father shows that she is from a wealthy family as her father mentions shopping.
'The Brain'
The brain arrives in an average car with his mother and sister, which shows he comes from an average income family. His mother conversates with him about being well behaved in class showing how his mother sees education as a must for him. He acts goofy around the other characters which can be seen as him not having experience with other people.
'The Basketcase'
The basket case dresses in all black which can suggest she is a depressing character and someone who does not fit in. Furthermore when she arrives at school the car drives right past her which can be interpreted as her having a strained relationship with her parents.
The clothing the criminal chooses to wear are loosely fitted, furthermore no other person seems to wear something similar to him which shows him as a character who rebels/ does not stick to the status quo.
'The Athlete'
The Athlete wears sports clothing which shows his status in school as being popular. He arrives in a jeep which shows he ones from a wealthy family. This is shows the stereotype of how all jocks/cheerleaders come from a wealthy family.
